IUGS Commissions and their Subcommissions are bodies of experts appointed to coordinate long-term international cooperative investigations to establish standards in appropriate fields, and to encourage international cooperation in the advancement of knowledge in various disciplines and problems in the geological sciences, and promote public awareness of the geosciences.
