  • Eligibility to nominate members for the IUGS Executive Committee
     

  • Access to the IUGS-Awards-Programme, such as the Hutchison Fund Travel Award, the Émile Argand Award, the James M. Harrison Award, the Early Career Award, and the Scientific Awards of Excellence
     

  • Participation in Commissions, Task Groups, and Initiatives promoted and funded by IUGS
     

  • Financial support for organising scientific events and travel grants for early career scientists to attend the International Geoscience Congress (IGC)
     

  • Free-of-charge publications of high-quality research in Episodes, the flagship journal of the Union
     

  • Eligibility to bid on and host the International Geological Congress (IGC)
     

  • Establishing scientific standards, supporting Earth Science education, and raising public awareness of the role of geoscience in society
     

  • Facilitating knowledge transfer between the Global North and Global South through research carried out by various IUGS constituent groups, as well as the IGCP 2, a joint UNESCO-IUGS program, and ILP 3 (International Lithosphere Program) a joint IUGS-IUGG 4 program
     

  • Promoting responsible use of natural resources, encouraging sustainable practices, and supporting environmental preservation through geo-heritage, geoparks, and geodiversity initiatives
     

  • Providing training and resources to support geoscience education and research especially in the Global South
