About the International Geological Congress (IGC)
The International Geological Congress (IGC) is the flagship event of IUGS. It has been held since 1878 and attracts several thousand participants globally. The IGC takes place every four years at a venue selected by the IUGS Council during the IUGS General Assembly.

It's is a non-profit scientific and educational organization. The main purpose of the Congress is to encourage the advancement of fundamental and applied research in the Earth sciences world-wide.​
