IUGS Task Groups are short-term formal bodies that address project-oriented activities with a prescribed structure under the direction of the Executive Committee.

Task Group on Isotope Geology and Geochronology (TGIG)

TGIG’s objective is the definition of a set of recommendations regarding the isotopic compositions and the half-lives of radioactive isotopes, mainly, but not exclusively, for elements used by the geological community for geochronology.

Task Group on Submarine Geohazards (TGSG)

TGSG targets the full spectrum of submarine geohazards that impact people’s lives and critical infrastructures. TGSG works with industry partners to identify and address key knowledge gaps, as well as providing a global map of submarine geohazard risks and creating guidelines for assessing various submarine geohazard risks pertaining to emerging energy transitions.
